[ He knows that Fenrir likes to push boundaries. But Loki knows how to push right back and for all that he has a soft spot for his kids, especially the baby, he won't just let him get away with things. He has to teach him what's what. (Kind of like training a puppy. Ahahahah.)
So he doesn't yield to that whine, no matter how pitiful it sounds. But god no don't start pouting.
Loki pinches the bridge of his nose and tries to wipe the image of Fenrir's petulant endearing face from his mind. His words have a slight edge this time, almost but not quite a snap, don't push it Fenrir— ]
Well you can't always do what you want. [ Or.....not do what you don't want. w/e. ]
only way manlier than loki could ever dream of being B)
[ fenrir is still young enough to not know when to stop or when he's got one toe over the line. he's five (six? fuck idk) so he still thinks he's incredibly invincible. even against his father.
and he can hear that edge in loki's voice. knows he should stop. except he doesn't. he continues on, pushing right back. still pouting, still that petulant little child. in fact he sits with a huff on the floor, glaring at the dishwasher. because clearly it is at fault, not him. ]
[ Finally, he snaps, rough and reprimanding, ] Don't you dare talk back to me—
[ And then promptly shuts his mouth. Takes a deep breath, closes his eyes as he massages his brow. He doesn't want to have a fight over the phone, especially while he's at work. Truth be told he doesn't want to fight at all, but he won't let his 5 (6, w/e) year-old son thinking he's got the authority. Fenrir can think he's invincible all he wants, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and as stubborn as he is, Loki is more so. ]
That's not true. [ He reasons. Because his son has to understand. He glances at the office door, lowering his hand, slowly. ] Even I can't always do what I want. [ Contrary to popular belief. ]
There are times when we all must do things we don't want to do. And this, for you, is one of those times. [ Then, more firmly, ] I am your father and you're to do as I say. Do you hear me?
[ oh uh-oh D: he flinches as if loki's right there with him and he knows it's time to tighten up. pull his socks up and whatnot. it's not often that he pushes... just when... he knows he's going to get in trouble, he wants to get out of it—not take the responsibility for what he did (sound familiar? you're passing on shitty traits, loki).
he sinks down until he's nearly laying on the floor and letting out a long breath of air as he does so. all the while he's trying to think of a way he can get the snake out before having to tell his brother at all. also couldn't fit this anywhere but imagining thor being so irrationally turned on by loki reprimanding godslfjskdjs ]
Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiineeeeee. [ hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ] I guess.
[ Do as he says, not as he does, ok? His children can be sneaky and shit elsewhere (hell he'd probably even secretly be proud of them for it) but not with him. They can't outfox him.
ajfdaksl no stop it.he totally would though. ]
Good. [ Loki exhales, quietly. Not that you're wearing him out or anything. ] If I get home and find out you didn't listen, Fenrir, you're in worse trouble than you can even imagine.
[ ummmmmm no. he'd prefer to do as loki does. that seems like more fun. fenrir knows he can't outfox THE fox, but he can fox right along side.
no. he would. have to leave suddenly if it happened
he sighs, another whine sort of noise as he rolls around on the floor ]
Yesssssssssss dad. [ he really doesn't want to get into that much trouble. he did once before and he'd h a t e d it. ] I said I wou—
[ fenrir goes absolutely silent, he's barely even breathing. suddenly the phone clatters to the floor and there's all sorts of muffled noises and then there's a holler of excitement followed by thundering footsteps that get further and further away as does his voice, ]
DAD it came out!! I'm gonna go put it back!! Wait... Oh my god gross there's a piece of corn—
brushing up on looking down, working on his roar? also changed my mind 1/???
Loki pauses as Fenrir cuts himself off, and at the sound of the phone clattering he forgets to be angry as he wonders if something's wrong, his brow knotted in concern. ] Fenrir? Fen—
Loki visibly relaxes with an exhale. A breath he didn't realize he'd been holding, and even as he rolls his eyes a smile tugs at the corner of his mouth. ]
[ Then looks again at the office door and it's as if he suddenly remembers, oh yeah that meeting although it had been at the back of his mind the whole time. But now it's at the forefront and there's that sinking feeling that he has to go back.
He almost wishes that snake had stayed under the dishwasher.
[ He doesn't wait for Fenrir to return to the phone. Instead he hangs up, and sends a message. ]
I have to get back to work now. I'll see you when I get home.
[ Although even as he hits send he wishes he'd waited, so that he could've measured the fondness into his words and Fenrir could've heard and known that even when he screws up, his father still loves him.
Oh, well. Next time. Loki puts his phone away and heads back into the office, with an uttered apology for the interruption. ]
[ he is just so exceedingly happy that the stupid snake came out and he was able to grab it and fling it back in the aquarium in jor's room before it was even noticed as being missing. well, he did wipe it off first because it was covered in dust and for some reason a few pieces of corn??? how'd that get under there.
but. whatever.
things are comin up milhouse fenrir and he likes when things work out and he doesn't have to get in trouble.
he skids back into the kitchen, sliding past, but grabs the phone on the way, anyway. ]
the smile falls and he just stares at the text. he shouldn't be upset, he knows he shouldn't. work is important and it's important to loki. so.
yeah. he just... shouldn't feel that hot streak of selfish disappointment. but, there's no need to hide the frown or the possible just barely there hardly at all little quiver of his bottom lip.
but whatever. WHATEVER. it's fine. he's a big boy and can take it. in fact he replies with something that doesn't even show the disappointment. ]
ok. i'll tell jor what i did anyway also i think a monster is leaving vegetables under the dishwasher i think you should check it. just in case
[ The response doesn't come immediately, but at some point when the speaker in the meeting starts to lose Loki's interest he finds himself fishing his phone back out of his pocket. And when he sees the message, he's looking down, hiding his smile behind his hand.
As soon as he thinks no one's looking, he sends off quick reply, ]
HAHAHA oh. i just had thoughts. about how fen's one of those spitting image of their parents kids
So he doesn't yield to that whine, no matter how pitiful it sounds. But god no don't start pouting.

Until then, make sure to keep your brother and sister safe. In case there is a monster.
